I haven't had as much time as I thought I'd have to dedicate to this site over the last couple of weeks, but I'm happy to be able to report my first success.
Over the weekend a new group called Memories of growing up in Clacton in the 70s and 80s appeared on Facebook (that link will almost certainly only work if you're logged in to Facebook). Suddenly there were dozens of people posting memories and photos of Clacton. There were a few people I knew, but none of the people I was looking for.
I posted the photo to the group anyway, hoping that someone in the group might be able to help me. I got a few comments from people who recognised other people but, initially, no firm links. And then I got a comment from the brother of someone in the photo. He said he would pass on the information to his brother.
Last night I went out to the pub, but when I got home I got a Facebook friend request from the brother.
So that's contact established with Simon Roche. He's on the far left of the back row of the photo and now he's living in Melbourne, Australia. Hopefully he'll give me some more information and can put up a page for him.
Given the small amount of effort I've put into this so far, it's nice to have this early success. It makes me think that I haven't taken on an insurmountable task. Which is nice.
