The Photo

Clacton County High School always used to take a photo of the Upper Sixth just before they all left. 1981 was an exception to that rule. Many of us had handed back our prefects badges and that had annoyed the headmaster so he decided that the school photo from 1981 would only include people who were prefects. This excluded much of the Upper Sixth, but included the Lower Sixth who had been drafted in to replace us.

However, we weren't going to just accept that. So Dominic West (sitting, far right) arranged an alternative Upper Sixth photo. He booked a photographer to come to the recreation ground beside the school and take our photo one lunchtime. We managed to get (almost) all of the Upper Sixth together and three versions of the photo were taken. We sold copies to parents and made enough to pay the photographer. I suspect that any extra profit was put behind the bar at our leaving disco.
